Local business looking after local charities

A local Merry Maids business has granted his own Christmas wish to two charities in a vow to help the local community and give back.

Gary Rolfe, owner of Merry Maids of Kingston decided he wanted to do something good for the local community and give two members of the public a Christmas and New Year they wouldn’t forget in a hurry!

Late in 2018, Gary contacted the director of Stay Well Services, also based in Kingston, to show his initial interest in helping two members of the community by providing them with a free house clean.

Stay Well then worked with Gary to help select the two lucky candidates.

“I just wanted to give something back to the local community, which is why I initially contacted Stay Well. A lot of people might take a clean house for granted, but for some it’s not as simple as that and I wanted to help make it possible.” Commented Gary

Two properties were selected in the Kingston area; one that belonged to an elderly gentleman who struggled to clean, and another belonging to a young mother who suffers with ME, and finds everyday tasks like cleaning difficult.

Both customers were absolutely delighted with their cleans and were extremely impressed with the Merry Maids Team for helping them have a lovely clean house for Christmas.

Money can buy you happiness, it would appear.

An article published in The Independent reports on research conducted that found ‘people who hire a cleaner or pay the kid next door to mow the lawn might feel like they’re being lazy, but results suggest that buying time has similar benefits for happiness as having more money.’

You can read the full article here.

The recent study conducted in Canada suggested that hiring a cleaner and buying time back for yourself has similar benefits for happiness as having more money. The research suggested that rather than spending money on material items in an attempt to feel better, people should spend money on paying someone else to do chores, such as cleaning.

At Merry Maids we agree with the findings, which is the fundamental ethos behind our company. Relax. It’s done. Our teams carry out the jobs and tasks that our customers either don’t want to  or don’t have time to do. If our customers’ time is best spent elsewhere or the value of spending time with loved ones outweighs the time required to clean to a high standard, that’s where Merry Maids comes in. Our bespoke service is designed to clean what our customers require us to clean and nothing less.

Our approach to pricing is to provide a cost per job, rather than an hourly fee. Merry Maids gets the job done, in the time we have allowed and charged you for. We don’t leave a home half-cleaned because we ran out of time to clean it. Imagine if you will, asking your hairdresser to just do half an hour’s work and leaving with half the job done! You don’t ask your hairdresser for a cost per hour, you pay them for the job. Ever felt short-changed when you pay for five minutes of time to clean your car at the jet wash and you can’t quite finish the wheels in time? Hmm.

Our aim is to provide our customers with piece of mind that their homes are clean, sanitised and tidy for their return home, in the time that they’ve paid us for. This leaves them time to get on with what’s important to them and ultimately, happier for it.

If you need happiness in your life. Contact your local Merry Maids team..

Twelve months ago, local Pudsey resident Emma Cabry, entered the world of business ownership after leaving her 17-year management career and has grown the franchise by over 27% during the spectacular first year.

Having bought an established business, which originally launched in 2002, Emma significantly increased her turnover and has increased her staff and customer numbers by over 33% and 47% respectively.

Emma said: “It was a big decision to leave my career and go it alone but it’s been a huge success and I’m delighted to still be smiling 12 months later. I’ve had the support from the team around me and the opportunity to invest in local talent and bring in and train so many new staff too.

“My goal is to grow the business further and provide our services into more homes across Ilkley, Skipton and surrounding area. I want to be in a position to give people a chance of employment. It’s a big thing to be trusted to move around our customers’ homes but our professionalism, trustworthiness and discretion is key to our success.”

Merry Maids brand operations manager, Catriona Berry added: “Merry Maids of Ilkley and Skipton has quickly developed under the ownership of Emma. We predicted success for her when she launched and we’re really pleased to see her report strong figures and a willingness to engage in the community around her and develop her team.”

Merry Maids is a franchise of ServiceMaster Ltd, which has been operating in the UK for over 55 years. With nearly 70 local Merry Maids businesses in the UK, it is one of the leading domestic cleaning brands in the industry.

Merry Maids welcomes two new business owners

Merry Maids, one of the UK’s leading domestic cleaning franchises, has welcomed two new investors into its network, Mylin Lasham and Gary Rolfe.

Mylin Lasham chose to invest in an existing franchise territory in Moray, near to Inverness from long-standing and award-winning Merry Maids franchisee, Bill Grant.

Gary Rolfe purchased the franchise license to operate in his hometown of Kingston-upon-Thames. Excited about the opportunity ahead of him, Gary said: “I’m ready for the challenge and can’t wait to start employing maids and meeting new customers. The Kingston and surrounding areas are a fantastic place for business and I’m raring to go.”

Mylin added: “The Moray franchise is in a fantastic place for me to be able to bring fresh enthusiasm and develop the business further. I’m looking forward to meeting all of the existing customers and finding out where we can deliver an ever better service to them and new customers.”

Merry Maids brand operations manager, Cat Berry commented: “With the spring cleaning season upon us, both Mylin and Gary have an ideal opportunity to get off to a flying start with their businesses. I’m predicting great things for these two.”
